Superhero Costumes for Children in Shelters

Today’s project centered on the difficulties children face when living in homeless shelters. We made superhero capes, masks and bracelets to donate to a local family shelter. The Stars were reflective and empathetic during our discussions and not surprisingly were eager to work on a project that would bring strength to children facing homelessness. We brainstormed ways that our superhero costumes would help homeless children and were blown away with their ability to articulate their thoughts on such a difficult subject matter. One camper summed it up so well when they said, “With a zap of imagination and our capes, the kids could be transported to a different world where they feel powerful and strong.” WOW just WOW, these are some super kids. A big thank you needs to go out to Hipstitch in West Newton who donated the materials and machines so that we could do this project. They were incredibly generous, community-minded, and wonderful to work with. It does take a community to be able to run this program. Thanks Hip Stitch! We could have not done it without you!
